‘UK broadband is not fit for purpose’, declared the Federation for Small Businesses (FSB) last week. As part of its 52 page report, the FSB has also claimed that the UK’s broadband target is lacking in ambition compared to other nations. It has called on the UK government to make a more substantial commitment to deliver broadband to businesses and homes across the UK.
Tackling UK mobile network ‘blackspots’ – the solution is small cells
The gaps in mobile coverage across rural parts of the UK continue to baffle and bemuse. The harsh reality is that some parts of rural Britain have no mobile coverage at all – some are loosely covered by just one or two operators.

These initiatives are causing an increase in data traffic within an operator’s network, and forcing them to look at increasing capacity from transmission all the way to end users.

Most mature regional broadband markets around the world are dominated by a small number of service providers. The US is predominantly owned by Verizon, Comcast and AT&T/Yahoo. The UK is driven by BT, Sky and Virgin. France by France Telecom, Germany by Deutsche Telekom, the list goes on.
