Mobile operators for the most part agree that they will need to deploy small cells as part of their LTE rollout plans, but those plans are under threat if they fail to address the backhaul issue, according to Paris-based start-up Bluwan.
"We're in big trouble when it comes to executing on small cell strategies," Shayan Sanyal, chief commercial officer at Bluwan, told Total Telecom this week. Operators have the technology to enable them to deliver great speeds at the edge of the network, but "the industry is not going to execute on small cells because they are going to get stuck on the plumbing."
